Inspirational: Point of Wheel is inspired by the everyday movement of wheelchair users navigating urban environments shaped by small, often overlooked details—uneven pavements, drainage gaps, curb edges, and abrupt level changes. While these elements may seem insignificant to many, they define mobility, safety, and access for people with mobility impairments. The work emerges from close attention to these ground-level conditions, where movement requires constant awareness and care.

Concept: The work reconsiders the notion of point of view by shifting perception from eye level to wheel level. The term Point of Wheel plays on Point of View, emphasizing that perspective is produced through bodily movement rather than visual dominance. The project aligns with the idea of ThisAbility, foregrounding ability, adaptability, and agency rather than deficit. Mobility is presented not as a smooth journey, but as a continuous process of negotiation shaped by urban design.

Compositional Technique: The video is filmed exclusively from an extreme low angle near the wheelchair wheel, treating the camera as an extension of the moving body. Desaturated visuals reduce narrative distraction, while continuous sound—wheel rotation, road texture, and impact—guides perception. The work is structured as a seamless loop with no beginning or end, reinforcing repetition and persistence.
