"Dialogue with the sereneness
Part 1: The Canal"

In the past, Saen Saep Canal was known by the Muslim people who were forcibly relocated from the southern provinces as "Su-ngai Senyap" or "the sereneness canal," reflecting its natural beauty and diverse cultural traditions. However, this tranquility has gradually faded with the rapid development of society, the economy, and culture. The Artwork series “Dialogue with the sereneness Part 1: The Canal” presented highlights findings from a survey of communities along Saen Saep Canal, seeking to understand how the tranquility that has been a cornerstone of the canal has changed. The survey revealed issues of unequal urban development. Landscape redesign along the Saen Saep Canal where disparities exist. Furthermore, natural areas are being encroached upon by the expansion of buildings and houses. Many original green spaces have been abandoned and fenced off, creating a feeling of insecurity. While some natural areas have been recreated, such as the 15-Minute Park, which was built in a limited space to provide temporary recreation for city dwellers with fast-paced lifestyles. All development efforts aim to generate economic growth through consumption and tourism. Canals are filled in, dug, and excavated; many areas have become prolonged construction zones, obstructed by construction machinery and water management issues, transforming the tranquil landscape. This reflects the changes that have occurred to this canal today. The creators hope that this series of works will evoke both an aesthetic experience and encourage open-ended dialogue, leading to an exchange of ideas that further explore various topics.
